ISLAMABAD: The controversy surrounding the transfer of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan to a private hospital in Islamabad showed no signs of subsiding on Friday, as the Islamabad chief commissioner again approached the Supreme Court (SC), arguing that the move appeared discriminatory.

The petition argued that the applicant had a direct, substantial and legally protected interest in the matter and that the Aug 18 order adversely affected its constitutional authority.

Imran — imprisoned since Aug 5, 2023, for concealing details of Toshakhana gifts — is serving a 14-year sentence at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail in a £190 million corruption case, also known as the Al-Qadir Trust case. However, his health has deteriorated over the course of his prison sentence, prompting outcry from members of the party.

A three-judge SC bench, led by Justice Shahid Waheed and comprising Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, on Tuesday ordered Imran’s transfer from the prison to Shifa International Hospital within two days while hearing several petitions concerning the former premier’s health and meetings with his family.
