Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra has appealed to Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy to issue the final notification on the re-demarcation of the Shettihalli Wildlife Sanctuary boundary.Mr. Raghavendra met the Minister in Bengaluru on Friday and submitted a detailed memorandum on forest-related issues concerning Shivamogga district.The Union government had given its consent to redraw the sanctuary’s boundary, as it included parts of Shivamogga city. Eshwar Khandre, who earlier held the Forest portfolio, had visited the area for a review.Mr. Raghavendra urged the Minister to finalise the redrawing of the boundary and recommend that the Centre amend the buffer zone accordingly. He also sought the early finalisation of the boundary of the Sharavathi Lion-Tailed Macaque Sanctuary.On the decades-old rehabilitation of people displaced by the Sharavathi project, the MP urged the Minister to direct the Shivamogga Deputy Commissioner to finalise the rehabilitation proposal. He also sought the Minister’s approval for a plan to clear trees in the Mysore Paper Mills (MPM) forest area.Mr. Raghavendra further raised the pending second-phase approval for the road and bridge construction from Mavinakoppa Circle to Adugodi in Hosanagara taluk under National Highway 766C (the Bekkodi project), and asked that the Sagar Deputy Conservator of Forests be directed to submit the proposal immediately.On the cable car project connecting Kodachadri hill to Kollur, Mr. Raghavendra said the recommendation letter for environment and wildlife clearance was still pending, and urged early action on the Stage-1 approval.In a statement to the media, Mr. Raghavendra said the Minister heard out his requests and responded positively, assuring him that all the issues raised would be reviewed and appropriate action taken soon.
