In Part 1 of The Athletic’s Edmonton Oilers fan survey, I examined polling on questions surrounding general manager Stan Bowman’s offseason, confidence in head coach Mike Babcock, the reshuffling of the blue line and the new goaltending trio.In Part 2, questions revolve around captain Connor McDavid and his future, his usage alongside Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers’ outlook for the regular season and playoffs.The biggest takeaway? Fans remain extremely bullish on the Oilers, even after suffering their first opening-round playoff defeat since 2021. Fans will always believe in their team, but for what it’s worth, more than half of respondents believe McDavid and the Oilers will lift the Stanley Cup in 2027. Without further ado, here are the results.It’s been one of the defining questions of the McDavid and Draisaitl era, and one that hasn’t been fully satisfied to this point. But the answer is clear to respondents: Split them up. This comes after the duo was used heavily together in 2025-26 under Kris Knoblauch, but the lemon wasn’t always worth the squeeze — their goal share together sank to 53 percent after a three-season run at 62 percent, according to Natural Stat Trick.Also of note is the number of fans who believe Babcock shouldn't change a thing with 97 and 29, far outnumbering those who want more of the nuclear option. It's entirely possible — perhaps likely, if you're reading into his early thoughts on the team — that Babcock will go directly against the wishes of the fan majority on this decision. Sometimes a new coach first needs to determine what he has in his arsenal. What better way than to see what havoc two of the world's best players can wreak together?Fans expect McDavid to take a step back this season rather than rewrite the record books. Only 35.6 percent of respondents believe he will put up 130 points, a mark he has reached thrice in the past four campaigns.
