The Indiana Hoosiers take 2026 as perhaps the most improbable and the most convincing of defending national champions. Before Curt Cignetti’s arrival, Indiana was historically futile — a “perennial punching bag” across its first 125 seasons. The 2025 title run felt nothing short of miraculous. Yet the Hoosiers’ march to the top was also thorough and conclusive. They won all 16 of their games. They knocked off 2024 champion Ohio State, then gave Alabama its worst bowl loss ever and blew the doors off of Oregon. It all culminated in a championship statement with an all-time moment from Fernando Mendoza. While it’s hard to imagine what a better season would even look like, Cignetti’s 2026 team definitely has the credentials of a contender. Quarterback Josh Hoover arrives from TCU to be Mendoza’s successor under center. He averaged more than 296 passing yards per game in his last two years with the Horned Frogs. Hoover’s targets include returning wideout Charlie Becker, Michigan State transfer Nick Marsh and Tulane transfer Shazz Preston. The offensive line is led by redshirt senior tackle Carter Smith, a consensus All-American in 2025.Indiana’s defense was dominant last year, and Tyrique Tucker is back to anchor its formidable front. Linebacker Rolijah Hardy is positioned for another leap as a preseason All-American. And in the secondary, fifth-year cornerback Jamari Sharpe looks to build off his championship-sealing interception.Below, you’ll find Indiana’s 2026 schedule and the current Big Ten broadcast partners.
