The United States Department of the Treasury announced in an official statement on Thursday, August 20, that it had added 10 individuals to its sanctions list over suspected direct or indirect collaboration with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the statement issued by the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), nine Turkish citizens and one Iranian national, identified as “Masoud Mosafer,” were added to the sanctions list for their ties to Lebanon’s Hezbollah or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force (IRGC-QF).
The US Treasury stated that Masoud Mosafer was involved in the covert bulk cash smuggling of foreign currency to Hezbollah aboard commercial passenger flights bound for Lebanon.
The 10 sanctioned individuals were residing in Turkey or the United Arab Emirates. Among the nine Turkish citizens targeted in the action, eight are men and one is a woman.
