Poland has summoned Israel’s ambassador after Israeli authorities closed proceedings into a 2024 attack that killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza.
Polish volunteer Damian Sobol, from Przemysl, was among those killed when Israeli aircraft struck the charity’s clearly marked convoy in central Gaza in April 2024.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland is very disappointed to receive the information ... about the discontinuation of the proceedings,” the ministry said.
Warsaw said it had delivered a critical assessment of Israel’s handling of the case. Prosecutors in Przemysl are conducting a separate investigation and have requested evidence from Israel.
Deputy Foreign Minister Ignacy Niemczycki described Israel’s move as unexpected.
