Getting an online order delivered in under an hour already feels convenient. Having it arrive by drone in around 30 minutes might soon become routine for millions more Americans. Amazon has unveiled ambitious expansion plans for its Prime Air drone delivery service, saying it expects to reach nearly 500 cities and towns across the United States by the end of 2026. That’s roughly six times larger than its current footprint and marks one of the biggest milestones yet in the company’s push to make drone deliveries part of everyday shopping.
The expansion would bring ultrafast drone delivery to communities serving tens of millions of customers, giving shoppers another option alongside Amazon’s same-day and next-day delivery services.
Prime Air is designed for those moments when customers need something quickly without making a trip to the store. The service offers millions of eligible products — including groceries, electronics, cosmetics, medications, and household essentials — with deliveries arriving in as fast as 30 minutes.
According to Amazon, its drone delivery locations currently record the highest average delivery volumes in the US, with thousands of packages delivered by drone each day. The company says it has already delivered hundreds of thousands of packages by drone this year alone.
