—The finding: Human Rights Watch published an investigation on 20 August accusing Russia’s Africa Corps of killing nine civilians at Bombori, in Mali’s Mopti region, on 10 July.
—Who died: Five men aged between 19 and 34 and four children aged between six and 17. Six were shot as they fled and three were taken away and executed.
—The scale of the operation: More than 100 Africa Corps fighters entered the village at about 5 am, accompanied by three or four Malian soldiers, who witnesses say acted mainly as interpreters. At least 80 men and boys were rounded up under a tree.
