Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday staged a sit-in outside the Parliament Street Police Station after alleging that Delhi Police had refused to register a complaint over the alleged use of excessive force, including pellet guns, against students protesting over alleged NEET irregularities.Gandhi first approached Mandir Marg Police Station seeking registration of a case over the alleged police action during the July 20 student demonstration, but police did not register the complaint, according to sources close to ANI.Also Read: RSS tries to impose its view on all, says Congress leader Rahul GandhiHe then proceeded to the office of the DCP, Central, at Parliament Street Police Station, where he met senior police officials and pressed for registration of the case.Gandhi is currently sitting in protest outside the police station, with sources saying he has made it clear that he will remain there until the complaint is formally registered.The Congress leader had earlier accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of being directly responsible for the alleged use of force against the protesting students."We hold Amit Shah directly responsible for the violence that has taken place against our students. He authorised the shooting of our students. He authorised the use of lethal weapons, including pellet guns, against our students. For us, this is a fundamental issue. We will not accept our own forces shooting at the future of India. This protest has happened, and the deeper reason behind it is that India's systems- the job creation system, education system, institutional system, and media system have been destroyed. They have ceased to function effectively. There are consequences to this. We are now facing a serious economic crisis. During times of serious economic crisis, these systems become even more important. The government should understand that what has happened here is just one step in a much deeper problem," he had said.Friday's sit-in comes as Gandhi seeks to escalate pressure on the Delhi Police over the alleged action against the students and demand a formal investigation into the incident.
