Copper futures eased 0.11% on Thursday, August 20, settling at US$6.48 per pound on the global benchmark, a small pullback from the firm tone seen earlier in mid-August.

The US-listed CPER tracker closed at US$39.35, down 0.10% on the session, mirroring the modest decline in the futures contracts it holds.

Southern Copper rallied despite the metal’s dip with its New York-listed shares jumping 2.08% to US$198.73, while Freeport-McMoRan gained 3.08% to US$71.22.

Chile remains the world’s largest copper producer accounting for about 23% of global mined output in 2025, with Peru third at about 12%, behind the DRC.
