The ruling Democratic Party of Korea on Friday criticized the main opposition People Power Party for attacking President Lee Jae Myung over his remarks on scaled-back Korea-U.S. military exercises in Gangneung. DPK floor leader Han Byung-do said Lee was backing a responsible peace strategy and urging South Korea to take responsibility for its own security. The PPP had accused Lee of being overly pleased with Donald Trump’s decision to reduce the drills. Han told the PPP to stop exploiting security anxieties and to stop holding the alliance and public safety hostage.

The ruling Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) on Friday lashed out at the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) for denouncing President Lee Jae Myung's remarks portraying the reduction of Korea-U.S. military exercises as a big decision by U.S. President Donald Trump to promote peace on the Korean Peninsula.
"President Lee expressed his respect for Trump's determination to build a peace regime on the Korean Peninsula and said he fully agrees that Korea must take responsibility for its own security," DPK floor leader Han Byung-do said at a party leadership meeting.
