Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will receive a comprehensive technical update on Thursday: Version 2.0 upgrades the game from Unreal Engine 5.1 to version 5.5.4, revising lighting and vegetation, developer GSC Game World announces.

The update is free for all owners of the main game. GSC describes it in a blog post as the biggest overhaul of the Zone since the shooter’s launch in November 2024. The Ukrainian studio had already announced the switch to Unreal Engine 5.5.4 in August 2025 in a development plan.

Greener and less barren

The upgrade is most visibly apparent in vegetation and lighting. Forests and grass are greener, bushier, and more voluminous in many places. This changes the overall look of the radioactive zone; it now appears a bit less barren. The lighting mood has also changed, as significantly more light is reflected indirectly from surfaces.
