The Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators has called for stronger government support, continuous professional development and increased use of technology to strengthen arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in Nigeria.
The institute said the measures were necessary to improve public confidence in arbitration, attract commercial disputes to Nigeria and position the country as a preferred seat for domestic and international arbitration.
The institute stated this on Thursday during a courtesy visit to Punch Nigeria Limited in Lagos ahead of its 2026 annual conference scheduled for November 18 and 19.
The conference has the theme, “Reimagining Arbitration and ADR in Africa: Innovation, Integrity and Commercial Justice in a Changing World.”
Speaking during the visit, the Chief Operating Officer of NICArb, Williams Odah, said the institute was seeking continued media support for its annual conference while outlining some of the initiatives being pursued to expand arbitration practice.
