The Universal Basic Education Commission has given states participating in the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equality programme until November 15, 2026, to demonstrate readiness for implementation.
The commission said meeting the deadline would be a prerequisite for accessing the first round of programme disbursements under the HOPE-EDU initiative, which is supported by the World Bank.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, disclosed this in her address at a four-day HOPE-EDU Result Area 1 Thematic Regional Workshop in Lagos on Monday.
Garba, who was represented by UBEC Director, North Central, Elder Edward Abalaka, said the training was aimed at strengthening the capacity of State Universal Basic Education Boards to improve foundational learning.
She described the workshop as more than a training exercise, saying it was a critical step towards strengthening the foundations of basic education in Nigeria.
