CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds have lost 67 of their 128 games this season, but Thursday’s 10-9 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals was perhaps the worst of all, letting victory slip through their fingers on the most routine of plays.With two wins apiece heading into the game, a victory over the Cardinals in Thursday’s five-game series finale against a division rival wouldn’t have meant anything in the long term for a club that can already make nonrefundable vacation plans for October. Still, it was just another flashing warning sign that this team has drifted far from the hope provided by a surprise playoff run a year ago.Up 5-4 in the ninth with two outs, center fielder Dane Myers — one of the bright spots in a dark season — dropped the team’s 62nd victory of the season as a fly ball to deep left-center bounced off his glove, allowing the Cardinals to score the tying and go-ahead runs.As if that weren’t enough of a heartbreaker for Cincinnati, St. Louis tacked on four more runs in the top of the inning against relievers Brock Burke and Zach Maxwell. The Reds answered with four runs of their own before Cardinals right fielder Jordan Walker made a game-ending catch for the 10-9 St. Louis victory.
