“Lanterns” haters are going to be green with envy. The series premiere of the DC Studios show has racked up 9.3 million views in its first three days of availability across HBO and HBO Max.
That represents the biggest premiere for a DC Studios show on HBO Max to date and one of the top five premieres on the platform overall. Per HBO, the show pulled in 6.6 million viewers in the U.S. alone in the three day timeframe.
By comparison, the premiere of “The Penguin” grew to 10.4 million viewers across all platforms after 11 days when it originally launched in 2024. And while not a DC show, other recent hits like “It: Welcome to Derry” hit 5.7 million viewers in its first three days last year.
Based on DC’s “Green Lantern” comic books, “Lanterns” stars Aaron Pierre, Kyle Chandler, Kelly Macdonald, Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Jason Ritter, and Ulrich Thomsen. Laura Linney also appears in the series.
Per the official logline, the show follows “new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
