Emmanuel had accused his mother of being responsible for the death of his child and had allegedly confronted her over the claim on previous occasions.
The Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) has condemned the death of a Cross River State woman, Atim Emmanuel Akposi, also known as Atim Eyo, who allegedly died after her son, Emmanuel, accused her of witchcraft and set her ablaze.
The organisation in a statement issued on Thursday by its Director, Dr Leo Igwe, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect, warning that the incident demonstrates the “vicious impact” of witchcraft accusations and the violence they can trigger against innocent people.
“The Advocacy for Alleged Witches is outraged over the death of Atim Emmanuel Akposi, also known as Atim Eyo,” AfAW, said. “Her death underscores the vicious impact of witchcraft suspicion and accusation on innocent lives.”
According to AfAW, Emmanuel had accused his mother of being responsible for the death of his child and had allegedly confronted her over the claim on previous occasions.
