The US has approved the possible $4.50 billion sale of four KC-46A refueling aircraft to Qatar, according to a Congressional notification from the State Department.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a strategic regional partner that has been and continues to be an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East,” according to the notification.

The sale will also increase Qatar’s capability to meet current and future threats, while reinforcing Qatar’s strategic role in regional security, the State Department said.

The principal contractors will be Boeing, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, RTX Corporation, and Northrop Grumman Corporation.
