Former Minister and CPI(M)’s Beypore MLA P.A. Mohamed Riyas has threatened legal action against reports which appeared in some sections of the media which alleged that the money received by T. Veena, his wife and Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan’s daughter, from Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd. (CMRL) was routed through his bank account to the accounts of several others. The reports had also stated that Mr. Riyas had been called twice by the Enforcement Directorate seeking an explanation and that he had not been able to offer any clarity to the queries. In a Facebook post, Mr. Riyas said the said media reports were totally false and “humbug” and that these reports had appeared even though he had responded to media queries in detail on Wednesday and offered all clarifications on matters related to the Enforcement Directorate’s investigation. He said he would not respond to every baseless report appearing in the media on a daily basis as the investigation was continuing. ”Ï have done nothing wrong and have the full confidence that I can contest this legally,” he said.Mr. Riyas’ statement comes amid intensifying investigation by the ED into the alleged irregularities involving the CMRL and Ms. Veena’s IT company, Exalogic Solutions. He said he and the CPI(M) had pointed out the political dimensions of the investigation from the beginning and that all transactions were through legitimate bank accounts and that all taxes had been paid.
