David Spade opened up recently about feeling envious of his co-workers during his time on “Saturday Night Live.” The “Grownups” star has often spoken about the cutthroat nature of the show on his podcast, “Fly on the Wall,” which he hosts with fellow “SNL” alum Dana Carvey. “When you go to ‘SNL’ and then you’re hearing all these whispers of like, someone’s getting on more there, I would actively admit I was jealous,” he confessed on an episode released last week.“I’d tell Adam [Sandler], ‘Fuck, that was funny ― I’m so jealous,’ because that’s sort of like at least acknowledging something was good, or makes you better, to go, ‘OK,’” Spade said, adding that the show “was more about upping my own game.” “I know my level when I came in here as a middle act comic and going, ‘I got to get like this,’” he added. Everything was happening so fast. I was like, ‘Holy shit.’ He really came in loaded,” Spade said during an appearance on O’Brien’s podcast last year.“And Dana, obviously, is so good on the show, and Farley ― right from the get-go. So, I just didn’t have that,” he said. “I was sort of just a comedian that could write some funny stuff, but it took a while.”
