Police recovered unlicensed firearms, a stolen SUV and false number plates after a high-speed chase and shootout with suspected hijackers in Gauteng.

A third suspect was arrested on Thursday in connection with the killing of two Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit officers and two women in Reiger Park earlier this month.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said a 27-year-old man was arrested in Ekurhuleni on Wednesday following what it described as an intelligence-driven operation by its Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Germiston.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Friday.

According to the Hawks, the arrest is linked to the fatal shooting of Anti-Gang Unit officers Constable Thapelo Tlomatsana, 29, and Constable Sphiwe Sibeko, 28, as well as civilians Roleen Lessing and Jaydin Margerman in Reiger Park on August 7.
