The Telangana government has called for an assured price of ₹25,000 per tonne of Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) of oil palm to ensure income security for farmers across the country. It also wanted price revisions in line with rising production costs.“This will insulate oil palm farmers from frequent price fluctuations and ensure remunerative incomes,” Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said.He submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, appealing for measures in this regard at the 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday.He also sought the cooperation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to put pressure on the Union government.“The gestation period in oil palm plantations is very long, which forces them to wait for years to receive an income from the crop. A good rate for their produce would help recover the huge investments that they make in the initial phases,” he said.Stating that oil palm plantation is gaining momentum in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Minister pointed out price fluctuations driven by international price dynamics.Published on August 20, 2026
