South Korean battery giant LG Energy Solution (LG ES) has begun production at its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery cell factory in Lansing, Michigan, US.

Announced 18 August, LG Energy Solution Michigan-Lansing manufactures large-format LFP batteries for both battery energy storage systems (BESS) and electric vehicles (EVs).

According to LG ES, the plant aims to reach more than 35GWh of annual battery-making capacity at full-scale production. The cells are integrated by LG ES Vertech, the company’s US energy storage division, into systems for utility, grid-scale storage, and commercial and industrial (C&I) applications.
