Rhetan TMT, a leading manufacturer of TMT steel bars, has started power generation from its one MW captive ground-mounted solar power project at its manufacturing facility in Gujarat. With the solar power project now operational, the company expects it to support the energy requirements of its manufacturing facility and contribute to the integration of renewable energy into its manufacturing operations. With energy accounting for nearly 20 per cent of the company’s overall cost base, the captive renewable power source is expected to support greater operational efficiency and cost competitiveness over the long term. The successful operationalisation of the project also reflects Rhetan TMT’s continued focus on strengthening its manufacturing infrastructure and adopting sustainable energy solutions as part of its long-term business strategy. The company has also received Bureau of Indian Standards certification for premium-grade Fe500D, Fe550 and Fe550D TMT bars. The certification enables the company to supply these premium-grade TMT bars for government and PSU infrastructure projects across India.Shalin Shah, Managing Director, Rhetan TMT said the commissioning of one MW captive solar power project is an important step in strengthening the energy economics of the company’s manufacturing operations. With energy representing a meaningful component of cost base, the project gives greater control on key operating input while also supporting sustainability objectives. At the same time, the BIS certification for Fe500D, Fe550 and Fe550D grades expandsability to serve higher value infrastructure requirements, he said.Together, these initiatives strengthen the manufacturing efficiency and product capabilities while providing a stronger platform for next phase of growth, he added.Published on August 20, 2026
