Tyla won the MTV VMA for Best Afrobeats in 2024 and 2025 before the category was dropped from the 2026 nominations.
After a three-year run, MTV has dropped the Best Afrobeats category entirely from the Video Music Awards nominations.
The move comes after South African star Tyla's historic back-to-back wins.
Tyla won the MTV VMA for Best Afrobeats with "Water" in 2024 and "PUSH 2 START" in 2025, becoming the first two-time winner before MTV officially scrapped the category.
Nigerian star Rema won the award first for the remix of his song "Calm Down" featuring Selena Gomez.
