An AI system designed to act as a GP receptionist has been unable to understand some accents from Yorkshire, according to a service in Rotherham.

Healthwatch Rotherham said some patients were unable to communicate with the nationwide EMMA AI system used by some surgeries to help sort incoming telephone calls.

The system, developed by QuantumLoop AI, does not respond well to variations in speech such as regional accents or speech impediments, Healthwatch Rotherham said.
