CRISIS: Youth unemployment in SA
For young South Africans searching for a job opportunity, the country’s recently released 47.4% youth unemployment rate is more than a statistic - it is a daily reality of rejected applications, financial pressure and uncertainty about the future.
Nashlen Christopher Naidoo, 25, of Yellowwood Park, said he was not surprised by the high number of unemployed youth.
“I have been applying for various jobs since January, and have not had any luck. Unfortunately, this is reality, even for those who have tertiary qualifications. Nowadays, it is all about experience. But how do we get experience if companies are not willing to give us a chance? Even entry-level positions are calling for three to four years of experience.
“What is most frustrating is the lack of responses to applications, even to say that you are unsuccessful. You are just left in the dark, which can be demotivating,” he said.
