Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued at least 30 civilians from terrorists and foiled multiple abduction attempts in Zamfara and Katsina states in a series of operations conducted between August 16 and 18.
The operations also saw troops neutralise a terrorist-planted improvised explosive device (IED) along a major route in Zamfara State, preventing possible casualties among security personnel and civilians.
In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 thwarted an attempted mass abduction at Unguwar Rogo village in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area on August 16, following a distress call that terrorists had attacked civilians travelling along a local route.
According to Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the terrorists were suspected to have been led by Mallam Shuaibu, a notorious kingpin.
According to the military preliminary intelligence indicated that the attack could have been carried out as a reprisal following the recent arrest of suspected collaborators linked to the terrorist network.
