Greece is assessing wildfire damage after a destructive blaze in Halkidiki, as authorities report 11 wildfire-related deaths nationwide since June 30 and widespread losses to homes, property and farmland.
According to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, inspection teams conducted 427 assessments in fire-stricken areas during the past week, classifying 131 buildings as green, 145 as yellow and 151 as red. Authorities also carried out 311 reinspections of homes.
Following last week’s fire in Siviri, Deputy Minister Kostas Katsafados announced €3.5 million for infrastructure restoration in Kassandra, including €2.5 million for the municipality and €1 million for the Halkidiki regional unit.
Approval is expected in early September, with initial aid payments to affected residents planned within the first 10 days of the month. Separate fires in Attica and Zagori were brought under control.
