The KC Current, the NWSL club she helped build, is joining forces with major soccer and community organizations to launch a free youth league in the city’s Historic Northeast. The initiative arrives as Kansas City hosted a 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal, giving local children a chance to experience the sport at a pivotal moment for the city.Brittany Mahomes and KC Current expand youth soccer in Kansas CityThe new 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League is designed to make soccer more accessible to families who may face financial barriers to organized sports. The KC Current is working with U.S. Soccer, the Kansas State Youth Soccer Association and Kansas City Parks & Recreation on the program, while CVS Health will serve as the presenting sponsor. The eight-week league begins July 11 and will be based at the 9th & Van Brunt Athletic Fields. Its opening day will coincide with Kansas City hosting the World Cup quarterfinals, creating an especially significant backdrop for the program. The inaugural season will include 120 children between ages 8 and 10. Families will not have to pay for the basic equipment. Players will receive a Nike jersey, cleats, shin guards and a KC Current soccer ball, along with another ball from Franklin Sports. Coaches will also receive free educational resources. The Current’s president, Raven Jemison, said the project reflects the club’s wider commitment to the community.“Launching the 9th & Van Brunt Soccer League is a perfect embodiment of the Kansas City Current’s community pillars,” Kansas City Current President Raven Jemison told KCTV5. “We could not be more appreciative of our incredible partners and staff who helped bring this to life. This league will have a generational impact on young athletes, families, and coaches across the city. We are excited to see how the league grows and the success stories that come from it.”Brittany Mahomes’ KC Current investment reaches a new generationThe initiative adds another chapter to Brittany Mahomes’ growing connection with Kansas City soccer. Her involvement with the KC Current dates back to 2020, and the franchise has since experienced a sharp rise in value. Forbes reported that the team’s valuation climbed from $75 million in 2024 to $325 million in 2026, while annual revenue reached $36 million. That growth has also helped create a stronger platform for women’s soccer in Kansas City. CPKC Stadium, which Brittany played a major role in developing, opened in 2024 as a privately financed $140 million venue and became the first purpose-built stadium for a women’s professional sports team. Now, the focus is moving beyond the professional game.Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas described the youth league as an investment that extends far beyond soccer.“The new soccer league at 9th and Van Brunt represents a powerful moment of possibility for the youth, coaches, and families of Kansas City’s historic Northeast and the surrounding community,” Mayor Quinton Lucas told KCTV5. “What’s being built here goes far beyond the game. It is a meaningful investment in people, in dreams, and in the future of our city. With the support of the Kansas City Current, U.S. Soccer, and dedicated partners, this league will open doors and create life-changing opportunities.“Centering it at 9th & Van Brunt is a powerful statement, one that reflects a deep, lasting commitment to uplifting this community and transforming Kansas City both on and off the pitch.”For Brittany Mahomes and the KC Current, the next measure of success may not be a trophy. It could be the number of young players who discover a future in soccer because they were given the chance to play.
