Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd is slated to miss the rest of the season and will begin rehabbing immediately, the team said. The surgery, which the Wings said will address ongoing soreness in the knee, is scheduled for early next week in Connecticut.The UConn product first experienced right knee soreness during warmups before Dallas’ game against the Golden State Valkyries on Aug. 7. The Wings ruled her out of that matchup “out of an abundance of caution,” per a statement at the time, but she missed the next five games before Wednesday’s announcement of the season-ending procedure.
Fudd was in practice gear at the facility on Wednesday and could be seen doing weight work on the side. The Wings’ announcement came after coach Jose Fernandez addressed reporters following a team practice. Asked specifically about Fudd’s potential return to the lineup, he replied, “I don’t have anything new to share.”This is not Fudd’s first knee injury. She tore her right ACL and medial meniscus in college, missing the bulk of the 2023-24 season. She also suffered ACL and MCL tears in her right knee in April 2019 and missed much of her 2022-23 season because of knee injuries.“The most important thing is her health in her return to play and her longevity,” Fernandez said on Aug. 12.This story will be updated.
