…as he unveils ‘The Vanguard Chronology 40 years of Nigeria’s Tabloid’
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Nigeria’s former military head of state has called on journalists to uphold the principles of press freedom, professionalism and responsibility, stressing that a free and responsible media remains essential to building a prosperous Nigeria.
Babangida, the special guest of honour at the unveiling of ‘The Vanguard Chronology 40 years of Nigeria’s Tabloid’, on Wednesday, was represented by Mohammed Yahayaa professor in the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development at the University of Ibadan, made the call while highlighting the inspirational role Sam Amuka, the publisher of Vanguard Newspaper played in Nigeria’s media space through his steadfastness, courage, unwavering commitment, and dedication to the cause.
“We must remain steadfast believers in the power of a free, responsible, and robust press to build a prosperous Nigeria for our community.
“It is our sincere hope that this publication will serve as an enduring historical document for generations yet to come, and a purposeful reminder of the critical role of journalism in the life and progress of our nation,” he said.
