Asset management company Westbrooke has invested more than R750-million in three South African founder-led and family-owned entrepreneurial businesses.
The first investment was to form a partnership with the founder of an equipment rental business who wanted to realise partial liquidity while retaining operational involvement and securing the capital needed to support the company’s continued organic and acquisitive growth.
Westbrooke's second investment was in a family-owned distributor and retailer, which allowed the retailer to pursue further organic and acquisitive growth opportunities while maintaining management control and significant ownership.
The third investment was to form a partnership with a founder-owned real estate investment group to buy and build a portfolio of mid-market industrial real estate in the Western Cape.
The common thread across these investments is the quality of the businesses and their leadership, says Westbrooke investment executive Brent Blankfield.
