A total of 614 students who studied in government schools in Tamil Nadu have been provisionally allotted MBBS and BDS seats under the 7.5% reservation for government school students for the academic year 2026–2027.In a press release, the School Education Department said that as per the provisional allotment data furnished by the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, 510 students were allotted MBBS seats and 104 students were allotted BDS seats.Of the 510 students provisionally allotted MBBS seats, 323 were allotted seats in government medical colleges, 12 in ESI institutions, 166 in Self-Financing Medical College, and nine in private universities. Of the 104 students who were provisionally allotted BDS seats, 16 were allotted seats in government institutions, and 88 in self-financing dental colleges.Giving the community-wise distribution of the MBBS allotments, the release said that it included 88 students belonging to SC, 15 to SCA, six to ST, and 170 to BC. Among dental allotments, 15 students belonged to SC, four to SCA, one to ST, and 27 to BC.The School Education department said that the 7.5% reservation for students who have studied in government schools from Classes VI to XII has emerged as a significant pathway for talented students from economically and socially diverse backgrounds to access professional medical and dental education, the release said.
