OTON, ILOILO, Philippines — A proposed P20.3-billion artificial intelligence (AI) data center has hit a snag. Before its Norwegian proponent could complete his roadshow to win support from local residents, he walked out of a public consultation after they pressed him to explain the project’s use of the town’s water supply.
The cooling system for the data center was the first issue raised during the forum and it immediately grabbed the attention of the crowd, including several municipal officials.
Before he could fully explain the water requirements for the cooling system, Daniel Stefan Robertsen, the project owner of the proposed WS Hyperscale AI Campus in Barangay Abilay Sur, left over 200 people gathered inside a village chapel to listen to him.
He sounded disappointed.
