Comedian, SLK, says he has never felt pressured to change his comedy style or make his content more mainstream to meet audience expectations.

Speaking in an interview with Sunday Scoop, he said, “I grew to find myself. You know how they say, if you jump up, you can come down, but if you grow up, you stay there. I find it difficult to be something else apart from being me. I do only what I’m inspired to do. So, it’s not something I can be pressured out of.”

Commenting on whether there was enough room for intelligent and thought-provoking comedy in Nigeria, SLK said there was a market for different styles of comedy, noting that audience preferences were naturally diverse.

He said, “I believe there is a market for everyone. Just like in music, there is pop (popular) culture; it doesn’t mean the other genres would suffer. Just as our faces are different, so are our tastes. I don’t even see what I do as intellectual comedy. I see all as comedy, just different genres. We are all telling jokes, just different styles of expression. But then, we give the audience more options.” Related News I attract guys who can handle strong women — Mummy Wa I don’t have to choose between acting, influencing – Susan Pwajok Speak out on personal struggles, Nollywood actress Daramola urges colleagues
