Following a collision at third base on Friday and subsequent concussion protocol testing, the Toronto Blue Jays have placed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on the 7-day concussion IL. Guerrero must progress through MLB’s return-to-play protocols before rejoining Toronto, leaving an opening at first base for the Jays.The incident, which happened in the sixth inning of Friday’s 3-1 win over the New York Yankees, saw Guerrero take an errant knee to the head during a series of defensive miscues by the Yankees. Guerrero, who was sliding into third base, collided with George Lombard Jr.’s knee. Guerrero was able to pop up to his feet and run home and score; however, field cameras caught the slugger wincing.Guerrero was subsequently removed from the game and went through the concussion protocol, with Schneider noting postgame that Guerrero had “a bit of a headache.” He felt similar Saturday morning, the manager said.“When you’re dealing with this,” Schneider said, “it’s really driven by the medical team.”
