Congress has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day appeal to implement 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh called the pitch “dishonest” and accused the Modi government of “double-faced hypocrisy.” He said Congress has consistently supported implementing women’s reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections within the current strength of 543 seats.
