Alagappa varsity’s research works reach a new high, says VC at I-Day celebration

The Alagappa University’s research performance had raised its Scopus H-index from 94 to 135 through 12,118 publications, said Vice-Chancellor G. Ravi here on Saturday.Speaking at the Independence Day celebrations organised on the varsity campus, he said that the rankings in the assessment made by the national and international level ranking agencies such as NIRF, THE and QS had touched a new high that the scholars should be motivated.He hailed the freedom struggle, the stalwarts responsible for the Independence and described it as something which was not a gift, but earned through sacrifice.The university should work together to achieve the motto “excellence in action” through offering inclusive education. Referring to the contributions of Tamil Nadu and the Sivaganga region to the freedom struggle, Prof. Ravi recalled the valour of Rani Velu Nachiyar and the Maruthu Brothers in opposing the British rule.He said that Jumboo Dweepa Proclamation of the Maruthu Brothers, which called upon the people, irrespective of religion, to resist the British rule, reflected the inclusive idea of a united India and demonstrated their unassailable faith in the concept that diversity and unity have continued in this country for long.He further said that nation’s strength in 21st century would depend increasingly on current knowledge in science and technology including Artificial Intelligence, semi-conductor, biotechnology, space technology, energy security and cyber security.Expressing concern over the impact of global warming, he called for collective action on the part of the well-meaning citizens to preserve the pristine nature of the universe. Planting and protecting trees, conserving energy and water, protecting bio-diversity, adopting sustainable consumption, choosing sustainable life style and safeguarding water resources were some of the major tasks to be strengthened for preserving the earth.The Vice-Chancellor honoured Deputy Registrar M.
