The German Embassy in Kyiv hissued an updated security advisory, recommending its citizens avoid rail travel in Ukraine ahead of the country’s Independence Day on Aug. 24, DW reported. Additionally, the Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communications, referencing US intelligence, reported that Russia is preparing a large-scale strike campaign targeting Kyiv’s energy infrastructure ahead of the Aug. 24 holiday. Aug. 13 strike on Odesa railway The advisory follows an Aug. 13 Russian drone attack in the Odesa region that resulted in the deaths of two railway workers. According to Ukrainian Railways Board Chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, a jet-powered drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train carrying 340 people. The driver and assistant were killed while attempting to halt the train for an evacuation following a drone threat detection. No passengers were injured in the strike, and they were subsequently transported to Odesa by buses. During the Aug. 13 overnight attack, the Ukrainian Air Force reported intercepting 111 out of 133 drones launched by Russia. Strikes and falling debris were recorded across multiple regions.
