Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that threats to employees from the minority community should be taken very seriously.The CM said that from time to time they hear that militancy has ended in Kashmir. (HT File)Omar was referring to recent threats to Kashmiri Pandit employees in the Valley by a terrorist group, TRF, which is seen as a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba. After the killing of two non-local labourers in Kulgam earlier this month, threat letters appeared on social media, specifically naming some Kashmiri Pandit employees working under the PM package.The CM said that from time to time they hear that militancy has ended in Kashmir. “Then who is issuing these threats? Those responsible for security should not take these threats lightly,” he said.Omar said that two years ago targeted killings took place, particularly against people from the minority community. “Many were targeted and then employees began to leave Kashmir. Employees were even kept almost under arrest in their camps. So these threats should never be taken lightly. Action should be taken against those who are issuing these threats and proper security arrangements should be made for these employees,” he said.Meanwhile, divisional commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, said that the government has not issued any order for Kashmiri Pandit employees to work from home. “There is no such order,” he said.Garg said that the government has made adequate security arrangements for employees and all people ahead of Independence Day. He also asked people to participate in the Independence Day function in large numbers.
