Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a seven-point reform framework, or ‘Sapta Dhara’, aimed at accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047, saying work that could not be completed in the past five to seven decades must be achieved within the next five to seven years.Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the nation during the 8oth Independence Day celebrations, at Red Fort in New Delhi. (X/@narendramodi)Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day, Modi said India needed a new set of strengths to drive its development journey, drawing a parallel with the ancient reference to the ‘Sapta Sindhu’, or seven rivers.“Today, I would also like to recall that era when the nation knew, understood, and heard of India's prowess in the form of the 'Sapta Sindhu'. Now, to build a Viksit Bharat, we need a new current. Today, from the ramparts of the Red Fort, I invoke the 'Sapta Dhara' of strength before the nation,” Modi said.“In the coming 5 to 7 years, what could not be achieved in the last 5 to 7 decades, through the prowess and power of this Sapta Dhara, we will give the nation new heights, new momentum, and the capability to surpass new goals,” he added.The Prime Minister said the reform push would be accompanied by greater participation of India's youth in nation-building. He said the country needed to change its work culture, thinking and the speed at which it operates to achieve the 2047 goal.What is PM Modi's Sapta Dhara?The first of the seven streams of strength outlined by Modi is manufacturing power. He called for India to move beyond simply increasing production and build an entire domestic value chain, from components and design to finished products.“When I speak of the Sapta Dhara, the first stream of strength is manufacturing power,” Modi said.He said India must emerge as a trusted hub in global supply chains and stressed the need for Indian manufacturers to compete on cost, quality and scale. Zero-defect and precision manufacturing, he said, should become an Indian identity.The fourth stream is Gati Shakti, with Modi stressing the need for seamless and fast connectivity to support India's growth and movement of goods and people.The fifth stream is Raksha Shakti, with the Prime Minister placing defence capabilities among the key pillars that will drive India's strength and self-reliance.The sixth stream focuses on the green economy and blue economy, linking India's growth ambitions with opportunities in areas such as sustainable development, the maritime sector and the country's vast coastline.
