(Supplied: Geosciences Australia)A powerful earthquake has struck off the coast of Indonesia in the Flores region, triggering an early tsunami warning by the country's geophysics agency.The magnitude-7.8 quake, as reported by Geoscience Australia, was followed by several aftershocks.No immediate casualties or damage were reported.The earthquake was recorded at a depth of 35 kilometres just before 5am, local time, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.Its epicentre was 68km north-north-west of the city of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province.Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), issued an early tsunami warning for some regions in the country. and urged residents to stay away from beaches and riverbanks.The agency located the shallow undersea quake near Flores island.Residents along affected coastlines were advised to move to higher ground as officials closely monitored coastal tide gauges for any changes.Separately, Australia's tsunami warning centre said the undersea earthquake would have "no tsunami threat to the Australian mainland, islands or territories".Indonesia, a vast archipelago of more than 17,000 islands, is prone to earthquakes and volcanic activity because of its location on the "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines in the Pacific Basin.Reuters/AP
