Fortis Global Insurance Plc has appointed Dr Umar Faruk Umar as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Ufuoma Ibru as a Non-Executive Director, following approval from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

The insurer disclosed the appointments on Thursday, August 13, 2026, saying the appointments are expected to strengthen the board and support the company’s growth and expansion.

Umar will serve as an Independent Non-Executive Director, bringing more than 40 years of professional experience and over three decades of board and corporate governance experience to the insurer.

His previous board roles include Ashaka Cement Plc, CCNN Plc and NAHCO Plc, where he chaired and served on committees covering audit, risk management, governance, finance and establishment. He currently serves on the boards of GTL Registrars Limited and the Nigerian Capital Market Development Fund.

At Fortis Global Insurance, Umar’s experience in corporate governance, risk management, finance and strategic oversight is expected to support the board’s oversight and decision-making responsibilities.
