Now, at least metaphorically, Major League Baseball is prepared to go the distance.The league announced Friday that the Red Sox and Kansas City Royals will stage another game at the “Field of Dreams” complex on Aug. 12, 2027, this time broadcast on NBC. It would be the fourth official game at the site, after the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Minnesota Twins 7-1 in a Thursday night showcase on Netflix.
The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox inaugurated the field — made to MLB specifications, just a corn maze away from the original filming location — in 2021, and the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs met there the following season.While the threat of a lockout imperils all or part of the 2027 season, MLB is proceeding with business as usual. The league — which earlier Friday awarded the 2028 All-Star Game to San Francisco — announced the entire 2027 regular-season schedule on July 16.The Red Sox are scheduled to play the White Sox in Chicago the day before the “Field of Dreams” event, while the Royals would be coming from Minnesota. The game is slated to take place again on a Thursday, which had been an off day for the teams. Both teams will now have Friday off before resuming the series in Kansas City on Aug. 14.
