Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny paid tribute Friday to boxer Prichard Colón, recalling how he followed the promising fighter's career before a 2015 bout left him with severe brain damage. Colón died Thursday at age 33, nearly 11 years after the fight.
In a letter titled "Champion forever" and sent to Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Día, Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, said he had been a boxing fan since childhood and began following Colón's career in 2014, around the same time he was starting to record music in his closet.
"Something that perhaps people don't know about me is that I've been a boxing fan since I was a kid. I wasn't one of those who watched every Saturday's fights, and no matter who was fighting," Bad Bunny wrote.
"I also believe that having a Puerto Rican boxing culture adds an additional passion to that, as well as the honor of carrying the Puerto Rican flag into every ring and representing our great figures."
