First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, during a visit to the Sumy region, held a meeting with the leadership of the Regional State Administration and the heads of the region’s energy companies to discuss preparations for the fall-winter period of 2026/2027.
According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal announced this on Facebook.
In particular, the minister reviewed the readiness of the region’s electric power infrastructure for winter operations. The region plans to commission an additional backup power transmission line.
Meeting participants discussed the operation of the power grid amid ongoing Russian attacks and possible backup power supply schemes for consumers. Special attention was paid to strengthening transformer protection and new technical solutions for protection against FPV drones.
“An important area is the development of distributed generation. The Sumy region Resilience Plan calls for the installation of 36.4 MW of additional capacity. To date, only 2.4 MW has been commissioned. However, construction work is ongoing at all planned sites. I have given instructions to accelerate these efforts,” Shmyhal said.
