The USS George Washington is heading to the Middle East amid reports of poor conditions aboard another U.S. vessell, the USS Abraham Lincoln, according to multiple reports. Last week, the USS George Washington left port in Da Nang, Vietnam, according to an anonymous Navy source cited by the Associated Press. The unnamed source added that it was currently in the Strait of Malacca, which links the Pacific and Indian oceans. It comes amid rising concerns about conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has 5,000 sailors and Marines on board and has been at sea for nine months. It has been in combat with Iran for more than five months, spending 250 days in a row without making land—leaving those on board without the opportunity to see their families and friends.
