The Buffalo Bills are just a day away from beginning their preseason journey under new head coach Joe Brady. The Bills will play in their first official game at the new Highmark Stadium against the Carolina Panthers at 1 p.m. Saturday. It’s a game in which many of their healthy starters are expected to play. Along with it, plenty of roster competitions will get their biggest chances to make an impression on Brady and general manager Brandon Beane. So, with the Bills entering the next phase of the summer before the 2026 regular season, where do things currently stand on the roster after 11 camp practices? Here’s a brand new Bills pre-preseason 53-man roster projection.Quarterback (2)Josh Allen, Kyle AllenThe backup quarterback competition has left a bit to be desired. At first, it appeared Kyle Allen, the clear favorite to be the backup going into the summer, breathed some life into it, making it somewhat of an open competition. However, Shane Buechele has struggled, too, with a multi-interception performance on Thursday in limited team drills. It’s not an ideal backup situation, but Kyle Allen is the better option of the two — but expect Buechele to be back on the practice squad.Cut: Shane BuecheleRunning back (3)James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty JohnsonThe only variable about this group right now is the injury to third-down running back Ty Johnson. He was a part of the cluster dealing with a “lower body injury” and Brady declined to give a timetable. As long as he is healthy enough to begin the season, Cook, Davis and Johnson will be the three running backs yet again in 2026.Cut: Frank Gore Jr., Ian WheelerBuffalo Bills Camp: Jim Leonhard's scheme, DJ Moore and Breakout candidatesRobert MaysWide receiver (6)DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer, Skyler Bell, Mecole HardmanWe’ve made it to our first change from the pre-camp 53-man roster projection. Last time around, I had Hardman on the outside looking in, thinking that the Bills could try to get the rookie, Bell, to be their punt returner. During the open practices, Bell was rarely involved in punt return reps. On top of that, everyone else besides Hardman was either a roster long shot or struggled in those punt return reps, and now Bell is injured. So, even though Hardman may only be a onesie position as a punt returner, they might have to keep him and try to work him into a handful of offensive snaps to make it worth it.PUP: Tyrell Shavers
