Renault has introduced a more affordable Indian-built version of the Duster in South Africa.
The third-generation Renault Duster arrived in South Africa in 2025 as a more sophisticated product, but with two drawbacks keeping its potential sales success on ice.
Like its predecessors, the new Duster was initially sourced from Renault’s Dacia division in Romania, the company that originally created it. But with prices hovering around the half-a-million mark, even at base level, and its predecessor’s beloved diesel engine making way for a hybrid powertrain, Duster fans were not impressed.
Now Renault South Africa has solved at least one of those problems by sourcing the new Indian-built version of the Duster. It looks a little different and the specifications have changed, but most importantly, it is significantly cheaper than the Romanian version, with prices starting a rand shy of the R340k mark.
Built on the Renault Group’s new modular platform, the Indian-built Duster is 3mm longer than the outgoing Romanian model, at 3,343mm, while remaining on the same 2,657mm wheelbase. Boot space is claimed at 518 litres.
